Stone Ridge Bible Chapel
Stone Ridge Bible Chapel is a church on Hamilton Mountain with roots in the Brethren movement and no formal denominational affiliation. Its beliefs hold the Bible to be inspired by God and without error in its original manuscripts, confess one God who exists eternally in three Persons, and teach that those who repent and put their faith in Christ alone are forgiven and eternally secure, by grace and not by works. The church meets regularly for communion, baptizes believers by immersion on public confession of faith, and looks for the personal, imminent return of Christ.
Stone Ridge Bible Chapel is on Upper Sherman Avenue, just south of Stone Church Road, on the Mountain. It describes itself as a community of people who wholeheartedly love and follow Jesus Christ and passionately share his message of hope.
Stone Ridge traces its roots to a congregation planted on MacNab Street in Hamilton in the late 1800s. In the early 1950s the Christians at MacNab Street began an outreach on the Mountain, Queensdale Bible Chapel on Queensdale Avenue. After that building was destroyed by fire in 1994, the congregation found its present site and changed its name to Stone Ridge to reflect its new neighbourhood.
The Sunday gathering, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., brings together singing, communion and teaching, and the nursery and Sunday school begin after communion.
