Parkview Church

Parkview Church belongs to the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and seeks to be a church where God is worshipped and people are cared for. The Alliance statement of faith, to which the church points, confesses one God in three persons and Jesus Christ as true God and true man who died as a substitutionary sacrifice, and teaches that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and sanctified wholly. It holds that healing is provided for in Christ's redemptive work and that his second coming is imminent, personal, visible and premillennial, the faith the Alliance sums up as Jesus our Saviour, Sanctifier, Healer and Coming King.

Parkview Church is on West 5th Street on the Mountain. Through its Compassion Ministries, begun in November 2002, it runs a clothing bank, food help, a free income-tax clinic and a weekly outreach that takes food and clothing to people on the streets of downtown Hamilton.

The church traces its history to October 1925, when Godfrey Coombs started a boys’ club in a home on East 8th Street; services began in a rented store in 1928. Centremount Church opened at Brucedale Avenue and East 9th Street on 9 September 1943, was organized as a church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 1948, and dedicated a new upstairs sanctuary in April 1960. In November 1993 the congregation sold that building and bought two acres next to a planned city park on West 5th Street, choosing the name Parkview Church, and it held its first service in its new building on 7 December 1997.

Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m., in the gym that serves as the church’s sanctuary.

What to expect

The Sunday worship celebration is a time of hymns, contemporary songs, prayer and a practical message from the Bible.
