The Salvation Army Meadowlands Community Church

Meadowlands Community Church is a corps, or congregation, of The Salvation Army on the west side of Hamilton at the edge of Ancaster. Committed in its own words to 'winning people to Jesus Christ', it holds the Army's doctrines: that the Scriptures 'only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice', that there are three persons in the Godhead, 'undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory', and that Christ made an atonement for the whole world. It teaches that repentance, faith in Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary to salvation, and that all believers may be wholly sanctified.

The Salvation Army Meadowlands Community Church is on Stone Church Road West in the Meadowlands, on the west side of Hamilton at the edge of Ancaster. Besides Sunday worship it runs an adult day program for seniors and adults who need extra support, a free music academy on Thursday evenings, English conversation sessions, and fellowship groups from a men’s breakfast to Wednesday-night volleyball.

The corps dates its history to 1882, when Captain Jack Addie opened its doors and Captain and Mrs. Freer were appointed as its pastors; a year later it was presented with a flag bearing the words “Blood and Fire, No. 3 Canada”. It met in several temporary buildings until 1928, when it built a church at 28 Rebecca Street in downtown Hamilton, where it was known in turn as Hamilton One, Hamilton Citadel and Hamilton Temple. In June 2002 it decided to move to the west side of the city, taking the name Meadowlands. Its brass band traces its roots to 1883 and now has twenty-five members.

Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m., and the service is posted on YouTube by 2:00 that afternoon.
