Rehoboth United Reformed Church

Rehoboth United Reformed Church holds the Bible to be God's inspired and inerrant Word, its ultimate and infallible authority in faith and practice. It holds to the Apostles', Nicene and Athanasian Creeds and to the Three Forms of Unity, the Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism and Canons of Dort, which it says summarize the Bible's message 'that we are saved through Jesus Christ and we need to live in thankfulness before him'. It confesses that salvation is all of grace, through faith alone.

Rehoboth United Reformed Church is “on the mountain”, as the church puts it, at Rymal Road West and Glancaster Road; the City’s heritage inventory lists its building, put up in 2002, under Ancaster. The church explains that Rehoboth is the Hebrew name of a well in Genesis 26:22, meaning “a place of flourishing”, and says it cherishes the place God has given it in the City of Hamilton.

It is a member of the United Reformed Churches in North America, in the federation’s Classis Southwestern Ontario. Elders and deacons serve three-year terms, and the Reverend Jeremy Veldman has been Minister of Congregational Life since April 2022.

There are two services every Sunday, at 10:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon. The church preaches from the English Standard Version, and its services are livestreamed and posted on SermonAudio.

What to expect

Visitors are greeted at the door and are not singled out or asked to stand and give their name; ushers can help find a seat. The morning service usually runs just over an hour and is followed by coffee for everyone in the fellowship hall. The afternoon service usually lasts an hour, and its message is usually based on the teaching summarized in the church's creeds and confessions. Nursery is provided for children aged three and under, and the caregiver who signs a child in is given a pager.
