Maranatha Free Reformed Church

Maranatha Free Reformed Church seeks to be a church whose faith and life rest on the inerrant, infallible and inspired Word of God, the Holy Bible. It belongs to the Free Reformed Churches of North America, whose creeds are the Apostles', Nicene and Athanasian Creeds, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dort. The church teaches that salvation comes through Christ's substitutionary death alone and that sinners must be born again by the Spirit of God, and it seeks to 'declare a rich Christ for poor and needy sinners'.

Maranatha Free Reformed Church stands on Old Mohawk Road. The City’s heritage inventory lists it under Ancaster and records a church built in 1961, during the ministry of the Reverend W. Flaman, who served from 1956 to 1964, with an addition in 1991. The Free Reformed Churches of North America give the congregation’s institution date as 24 June 1953, and the church describes its founders as Dutch Calvinistic emigrants “whose love for the doctrines of grace and desire for experiential preaching” led them to start a denomination like the one they had known in the Netherlands.

Worship is held twice each Sunday, at 9:30 in the morning and 6:00 in the evening, with preaching from the King James Version. The federation’s directory lists the pulpit as vacant, and the sermons posted on SermonAudio come from a number of ministers. The church’s evangelism committee distributes Bible-text flyers and Christmas gift bags in the surrounding neighbourhood and takes packed lunches with a Bible tract to Gore Park downtown.
