## What they believe
St. Thomas the Apostle is a Roman Catholic parish of the Diocese of Hamilton in Waterdown, with roots in a mission church founded in 1846. It invites people to join its 'shared mission of faith and service', and built its church to serve catechesis, youth and family ministry and community life as well as worship. With the Catholic Church, it celebrates seven sacraments and holds that at Mass the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ.

## About this congregation
St. Thomas the Apostle stands on Centre Road in Waterdown. The parish history records that St. Mary's in Hamilton founded a mission church in Waterdown in 1846, named for St. Francis. A stone church on land given by Thomas English, today the site of St. Thomas Cemetery, was dedicated in June 1864, and the mission took the name of St. Thomas the Apostle. From 1877 it was served from Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Freelton, whose clergy built a third church, on Flamboro Street, in 1915; its exterior survives, converted into apartments.

In 1950 Bishop Ryan made St. Thomas a separate parish, with Father Joseph P. Cremmen as pastor. By about 1990 the congregation had outgrown its church, and the present church on Centre Road, which the parish describes as barrier-free and fully accessible, was completed and dedicated in 2005; the City's heritage inventory records that Bishop Anthony Tonnos opened it. Its pastor is Father Francis Noronha, C.S.C.

The Saturday vigil Mass is at 5:00 p.m., and Sunday Masses are at 9:00 and 11:30 a.m. Weekday Mass is at 8:00 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday.
