## What they believe
St. Nicholas is a parish of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, which is canonically part of the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade. It confesses one God in three persons, recites 'the original, unaltered Nicene Creed' at the Divine Liturgy, and teaches that Christians meet Christ through seven Holy Mysteries, or sacraments: Baptism, Chrismation, Confession, Holy Communion, Marriage, Ordination and Holy Unction.

## About this congregation
St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral stands on Nash Road South in the east end of the city. Hamilton's Serbian Orthodox parish dates from 1913: the City's heritage inventory records that it worshipped at first in a house on Sherman Avenue North and from 1917 in a church at Northcote Street and Beach Road. In early 1964 the growing community bought three acres on Nash Road. Under its new priest, Father Borko Borcic, ground was broken on 14 June 1964, construction began that October, and the church and hall were consecrated on 20 June 1965.

The heritage inventory describes the church as Serbian-Byzantine in style, of orange-red brick and stone, with three domes. The parish history records an iconostasis carved from walnut on the island of Crete, given in 1975, and the blessing in 1991 of the church's frescoes and icons, 400 in all, after three years' work. The parish, which marked its 60th anniversary in 2024, covers the Greater Hamilton area with two priests and has a church school, a choir and folklore groups.

The Divine Liturgy is celebrated every Sunday at 10:00 a.m., and Vespers on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. On Great Feasts that fall on weekdays, kept by the Julian calendar, the Liturgy is also at 10:00 a.m.
