## What they believe
St. Andrew's is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in Ancaster that dates its founding to 1826. Its mission is to gather as God's people, to worship, to grow in faith and love, and to reach out to the world as disciples of Christ, under a vision it calls 'Opening Doors': to Jesus, to its neighbours, and out into the world. It says its worship is always centred on God's Word and the person of Jesus.

## What to expect
The service lasts about an hour, and the church encourages visitors to come as they are; a welcoming team greets newcomers and answers questions. The music blends old and new, with a choir and worship teams playing piano, guitar, bass, flute and violin, depending on the week.

## About this congregation
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church stands on Sulphur Springs Road near Wilson Street East in Ancaster, beside the church's cemetery. The congregation dates its founding to 1826 and to the Reverend George Sheed, who came from Scotland and died in 1832 while a frame church on the present site was still being built; the City's heritage inventory records that his funeral, held on a temporary floor, was the first service in the new St. Andrew's. A split among Presbyterians in the 1840s divided the congregation, and its history describes today's St. Andrew's as the coming together of three congregations founded by three ministers: George Sheed, Mark Young Stark and John Lees.

The present stone church, in the Gothic Revival style, was completed in 1875, and the bell cast in 1835 for the earlier church hangs in its spire. A gym, kitchen, offices and parlour were added in 1961, the sanctuary was redesigned in 1990, and in 2018 a larger lobby with an elevator and an exterior ramp made the building fully accessible. St. Andrew's became a self-supporting congregation with its own minister in 1994, and the Reverend John T. Read is its minister. It is marking its 200th anniversary with a service on 25 October 2026.

Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. and is livestreamed on YouTube. Ancaster Village Church, a separate congregation, holds its own services in the building at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.
